Reliance Jio customers using Google Pixel to get Wi-Fi calling ability

The new feature will reportedly arrive as part of the next Android Nougat update.

Google took to Twitter recently to announce their collaboration with Reliance Jio. Turns out, Reliance Jio customers using Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones will soon be able to make calls using Wi-Fi. The company said that the new report will arrive as a part of the next Android Nougat update.

“Now say Hi over Wi-Fi, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling, now available to Pixel on Jio. Watch out for the next Nougat update,” Google (India) tweeted.

In other words, Jio users making use of Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones will be able to make calls regardless of poor cellular network connectivity. Like mentioned previously, Google plans on sharing the latest feature through the Nougat update and since Android 7.1.1 is already rolled out to Pixel smartphones, the ‘next Nougat update’ most probably means Android 7.1.2 Nougat.

Back in December last year, Google added the ‘Enhanced 4G LTE Mode’ for its Pixel smartphones thereby making it easy to use Reliance Jio VoLTE calling feature that came as a part of the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update.
