Whoever thought flip phones were a thing of the past, think again. When one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers decides to bring back the lost trend, it sure makes one wonder: Why?
Samsung has been reported by The Investor to be preparing the launch of a high-end folder phone in Korea. The smartphone — codenamed SM-W2017 — will be a revamped version of Samsung’s existing device that goes by the same name. Will there be a difference between the two-similar looking devices? That isn’t known yet. Samsung however, will only be making the device available in China.
The Investor report goes on to indicate that the smartphone will be similar to its predecessor but will only come with an “odd mix of advanced features, such as wireless charging and fingerprint scanning and entry-level specs, including a Snapdragon 430 processor,” The Mashable reported.
As far as the specifications of the device are concerned, the SM-W2017 flip phone is expected to feature a 4.2-inch full HD super AMOLED dual-screens and as mentioned previously, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 processor. On the camera front, the device sports a 12MP rear camera along with a 5MP front shooter. The device is powered by a 2,300mAh battery and will boast of 64GB worth of internal storage.
The smartphone will also apparently come with Samsung Pay support and will be water and dust-resistant.
