Guess when is Samsung unveiling its 'foldable' smartphone?

Samsung foldable smartphone, Galaxy 'X', is likely to be released in the first half of 2018.

Samsung’s next-generation smartphone equipped with foldable display, tentatively called “Galaxy X” is expected to be released in the first half of next year, reported Business Korea.

Although, Korean Herald in its recent reports cited a source claming Samsung is expected to roll out over 100,000 units of fold-out devices in the Q3 this year, industry official told Business Korea the official date of release will be sometime around the first half of next year.

“The prototype of the Galaxy X can be appeared this year but the device will be commercialized in earnest in the first half of next year in consideration of a relevant components mass production schedule,” an industry official told Business Korea.

ET news had reported in December that Samsung will roll out a small number of foldable smartphone and will continue to produce more only after knowing customers say on the phone.

The Galaxy ‘X’ smartphone is rumoured to feature a 5-inch display that could open up into a 7-inch tablet.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s rival Apple has also filed a patent for its foldable smartphones and is working towards producing such units.

The dual-screen foldable smartphone will be hinged together to appear like a small book. The smartphone will feature three orientations: fold out to move the screens on the front and back, fold in to protect the display, and laid out flat to use it as tablet.
