Latest Galaxy S10 leak shows Samsung's amazing new tech

Samsung will use the best in-class in-display fingerprint sensor Qualcomm has to offer.

Over the past couple of months there have been rumours that suggested Samsung would be using in-display fingerprint technology with their upcoming flagships, the Galaxy S10. However, at the time, we didn’t know what sort of technology would be added.

As per a report by SamMobile we now know that Samsung will be using Qualcomm’s ultrasonic sensor. The report states, “Qualcomm’s first-generation ultrasonic sensor was launched in 2015. Its second-generation ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor was used by a few Chinese manufacturers in their devices last year. Samsung is likely to be the first manufacturer to use the third-generation sensor. It would also be the first time that Qualcomm’s ultrasonic sensor gets picked for a device as high-profile as the Galaxy S10 which is likely to ship many million units across the globe.”

Besides a handful of Chinese manufacturers that have used the ultrasonic sensor, majority of smartphone manufacturers have employed an optical in-display sensor. These types of sensors offer the same experience to users but at a cheaper price. The main advantage of an ultrasonic sensor is that it increases its accuracy by modelling the fingerprint in 3D.

The report goes on to add that the Galaxy S10 may not be the first handset to feature an in-display sensor as the brand could launch a new mid-range smartphone in China that will feature it. Instead of using an ultrasonic sensor, Samsung may opt for an optical sensor since it’s a mid-range device.
