According to online reports, Google will be spending a huge amount to bring a curved display to its forthcoming Pixel smartphone. The company will be aware of the overwhelming response that the Samsung Galaxy S8 received, and it needs to build something exceptional to go against the likes of these flagships.
Google will be launching the next iteration of the Pixel this year, and is reportedly planning at least one design alteration. The company has already offered to invest at least 1 trillion won (£706 million) in LG Display Co., in order to secure a stable supply of flexible OLED screens for the next version of the Pixel. Google’s alleged offer, however, is yet to be accepted by LG Display.
There are chances that the screen supplier could reject the offer, impacting Google’s smartphone ambitions. Since the curved screens are so much in vogue right now, Samsung gone all-out by opting not to even create a version with a flat screen.
Apple is also reportedly planning of decorating its next iPhone with a curved screen and already agreed a deal with Samsung’s display division for the supply of 160 million curved displays for the iPhone 8, expected to launch in September this year.
