Creo to launch unique Mark 1 smartphone on April 13

The company has confirmed an event on April 13 where the unique Creo Mark 1 will be launched.

Mumbai: Gone are the days when smartphones used to be expensive and there are a lot of decently budgeted devices in the market to choose from.

While it is impossible for emerging companies to match up to the high-end technology offered by reputed firms, there are a few areas where they can capitalise and grow.

Bengaluru-based start-up Creo is an apt example of such a company that is trying to make a mark in the Indian smartphone market by launching a new device along with guaranteed OS updates every month—an unique idea which has never been offered before.

Xiaomi also has a similar policy where they offer minor update like bug fixes every Thursdays. However, Creo’s policy goes far beyond that as the company will offer major OS updates every month.

Recently, the company confirmed an event on April 13 where the device will be launched and you can live stream the whole event starting 11 am on creosense.com.

According to the company, the monthly updates will make users feel like they will be using “a new device every month”. And considering the booming demand for premium-budget handset market in the country, Creo’s plan looks resourceful and has the potential to disrupt numerous established players.

The company has also confirmed an event on April 13 where the device will be launched and you can live stream the whole event starting 11 am on creosense.com.

While the company has not yet revealed any details regarding the specifications, the device portrayed in the initial teaser video featured a large-screened device whose overall design showed strong resemblance to the iPhone 6 Plus.

Interestingly, the company—unlike other handset manufacturers—is focused more on providing OS updates. Creo has promised to offer one important OS update every month to keep users glued to the handset.

That said, one of the key areas where Android loses out is the absence of adequate software updates. Consequently, users are stuck with issues until Google rolls out the next update.

However, we believe that the company’s strategy to offer customers with software updates on a monthly basis will drastically rectify these problems and serve Creo well.

“With our OS, we’ll send to our users super relevant updates that’ll keep Mark 1 running as just new. And not just that, we’ll also ship a big new feature with every update,” said the company.

Moving forward, the company said that these monthly updates would be based on the suggestions given by Mark 1’s user community to “make Android better with features that aren’t available on any other Android device”.

With the company’s engineering team burning the candle at both ends, the device will be released shortly along with a proprietary OS, which will be closely based on Android Lollipop (5.1.1).
