Google announces Android Auto in India, 17 other countries

Android Auto is a resourceful in-car tool that not only acts as a haptic entertainment system and also offers myriad connectivity options.

Mumbai: Google’s Android yesterday announced that it has rolled out its in-car infotainment system Android Auto in 18 countries including India.

Some of the other countries that will enjoy the benefits of Android Auto are Brazil, Russia, Chile, Switzerland, Columbia, Paraguay, Argentina, and many more.

For users who are unaware about Android Auto, it is a resourceful in-car tool that not only acts as a haptic entertainment system and also offers myriad connectivity options—calling, messaging, and in-car navigation—without touching your smartphone.

For using the Android Auto App, all you need is a compatible vehicle (Hyundai, Audi, Honda, and many more) and a smartphone operating on Android OS 5.1 Lollipop or higher.

When the handset is connected to an attuned vehicle, Android Auto will involuntarily exhibit all the available features on the vehicle’s control panel screen. This tweaked feature will surely help vehicle owners avoid using their handsets while driving, averting distractions.

With the new roll-out announcement, Android Auto is now available in 29 countries across the world and as mentioned above it is compatible with a few car brands such as Hyundai, Audi, Volkswagen, and Honda. Reports also pointed out that streo makers such as Kenwood and Pioneer have also devised compatible aftermarket radio systems that are compatible with Android Auto.

According to a BGR report, the first Indian manufactured car to receive Android Auto support was the Mahindra XUV 500 and the company will be looking to offer the feature with the new Scorpio. Here is a complete list of cars that support Android Auto functionality.
