Galaxy Note 8 won't have a display-embedded fingerprint sensor
South-Korean tech giant Samsung recently took the wraps off its Galaxy S8, S8 Plus smartphones — pretty much taking the market by a storm. But the firm isn’t done yet. They are speculated to be working on bringing the Galaxy Note 8 to the table by the end of August. While rumors and speculations regarding the device have been popping up every now and then — a new report suggests that the company might be planning on ditching the idea of embedding its fingerprint sensor into the device’s display all together.
Online website News 1 cites a Samsung representative as saying, “We made every effort to install a display-integrated fingerprint sensor on Galaxy Note 8, but we decided not to install it on this strategic phone due to various technical limitations such as security.” In other words, while the company tried installing this update onto its smartphone — it didn’t work out for them as imagined and thus the idea was eliminated.
The report even further goes on to suggest that the company will now focus on developing the technology in collaboration with biometric sensor manufacturer, CrucialTec.
Earlier Galaxy Club reported that the Galaxy Note 8 will have the same aspect ratio as the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The smartphone will also reportedly feature the Infinity display, meaning the device will be sans the home button. The fingerprint sensor will most likely be integrated underneath the display.
Unfortunately the report doesn’t reveal any details about the innards of the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 and will run on the Exynos 8895 processor paired with 6GB of RAM. The Note 8 won’t be the first Samsung phone to have a dual camera setup, the company will unveil the C10 this summer, but an exact date is yet to be announced.
The Galaxy Note 8 is an important smartphone for Samsung, considering the predecessor Note 7 was discontinued causing massive financial loss to the company. The refurbished Galaxy Note 7R is expected to arrive in Korea this month, with a price tag of about $620.
