5 Samsung Galaxy S8 features you probably didn't know about

The company has surely left its contemporaries far behind in terms of the design.

Samsung recently unveiled its flagship smartphone, Galaxy S8, which is capable of giving any other flagship out there a run for their money. The company has surely left its contemporaries far behind in terms of the design. The new edge panel offers a lot of features that sets the device apart from other smartphones. But here are 5 other features that you probably didn’t know about.

Additional functionality for the fingerprint sensor

Samsung has been highly criticised for the positioning of the fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S8. Despite the awkward positioning of the sensor, users can add additional functionality to the sensor, letting you swipe down to activate the Notifications window.

You’ll need to turn this feature on before use, and can do so by heading to Settings > Advanced features > Finger sensor gestures.

Instant App access

The Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a heavily skinned version of the Android 7.0 Nougat OS. The company has also decided to eliminate an app drawer launch button. Users can now access all their apps with a single swipe.

Although traditional interfaces suggest your need to swipe up from the bottom to access your apps, the S8 allows swiping anywhere on the home screen to launch the app drawer.

Floating shutter

Users often find themselves having to contort their wrist in order to capture the perfect picture. Samsung has found a solution to this inconvenience by introducing the floating camera shutter.

The feature allows users to place the camera shutter button anywhere on the screen, letting them to take the desired picture without a shaky or blurry image. To turn this on users need to head into the Camera app and tap the settings cog in the top right corner and activating the ‘Floating camera’ option.

Split screen

This feature allows users to enjoy and work simultaneously. The feature allow for a good multitasking experience without any lag. To activate the split screen mode, you’ll need to open the multitasking menu (tap the left most of the three softkeys) and select the split screen view on your desired apps. You can also resize the size of the window by pressing the small rectangles and give bonus billing to one app or the other.

Pro camera setting

The Galaxy S8 uses the old camera sensor that was seen on the S7 edge last year. The camera exposes very vivid pictures and impresses in the low light photography department.

While the camera’s auto mode will delivery solid, all-round images in all shooting conditions, however, you can capture the perfect photo by delving into the camera’s ‘Pro’ mode.

Users can jump into the Pro mode by swiping right in the Camera app. The pro mode allows users to tweak with image settings, from ISO, focal points to exposure levels and white balance.
