Apple is gearing up to launch three new iPhone models, two of which are likely to feature dual rear cameras with two 12MP sensors, on September 12 at an event in Steve Jobs Theater. Meanwhile, the firm has also engaged itself in talks over upgrading the megapixels in the next year’s iPhone camera module, according to a report by DigitTimes.
The report by DigiTimes has revealed that the Cupertino-based tech giant is eyeing on integrating camera lenses of above 12MPs, and one with higher resolution power.
Apple has already "booked up the production capacity for above 12MP lens modules at a new factory being built by smartphone lens module maker Largan Precision in Taiwan," the report says.
The report also quoted Largen CEO Lin En-ping saying, “Viewing that smartphone cameras are developed toward dual or multiple lenses, large aperture and 3D sensing, the new factory will be capable of producing such lens modules.”
According to market rumours, cited by the report, among the smartphone lens makers only Largan gas been able to meet Apple’s minimum yield requirements. The factory is designed to yield 600 million lens modules monthly, while the production is slated to start in October this year.
