Apple may reduce iPhone 8 prices, claim industry insiders

An analyst for UBS believes high-end iPhone 8 models could start at $850.

Samsung recently launched its Galaxy S8, S8+ models, seemingly stealing most of the consumer attention away. Apple – in order to bring the ball back to their court – will have to deliver a challenging product in return. All eyes turn to Apple’s iPhone Edition or iPhone 8. While sources feel that the device will cost no less than $1,000, an analyst for UBS believes that high-end iPhone 8 devices will start at $850.

Previously, it was reported that a high-end iPhone 8 model could cost users over $1,000. If this is to be believed, then the iPhone 8 would be one of the most expensive products Apple has ever produced. However – in contrary to this – an analyst Steven Milunovich at financial services firm UBS believes that a 64GB high-end model could start at $850 and $900 in US in order to compete directly with Galaxy S8+.

He also added that a higher capacity 256GB model could cost between $950 (£760) and $1,000 (£800).

In a research note obtained by the site, Mr Milunovich is reported to have said: “Contrary to some perceptions, Apple prices quite competitively. Apple likes to position its entry-level products at the mid-market with "Pro/Plus" products close to competitors at the high end. Therefore, we do not think Apple will stray far from the price point of Samsung's most expensive model.”
