Razer's new gaming Phone flaunts a laptop rivalling 120Hz display

The Razer Phone is the company's first attempt at a smartphone with top notch hardware and super smooth 120Hz display.

Up until now, smartphones have been classified as flagships, affordable flagships, mid-range and budget. Razer wants to add another category to this market with what they do best — making gaming peripherals and products. Therefore, they recently announced the Razer Phone, which is claimed to be a hardcore gaming smartphone.

The Razer Phone is essentially a flagship smartphone packing some of the most advanced internals currently present in the market. It’s not exactly an iPhone X rival but its conventional ‘fat-bezelled’ display has an ace up its sleeves — a 120Hz refresh rate. You get a 120Hz panel on expensive gaming laptops and MacBooks, and now here it is on smartphones as well. Razer says that the 120Hz Ultramotion IGZO LCD panel with its QHD resolution and a 5.7-inch real estate will help gamers gain precision control during gaming sessions. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

Keeping aside the display, the Razer Phone is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 835 chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Razer has added a host of dedicated hardware reinforcements such as stereo facing front speakers, dual amplifiers, an audio adapter with THX certified DAC, and Dolby Atmos. The smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat as of now, with an Oreo update scheduled in the upcoming months.

There’s a 12MP dual rear camera setup, with the second lens acting as a telephoto lens for zoom-based functions. An 8MP front camera has been assigned for selfie duties. The smartphone is powered by 4000mAh non-removable battery, with support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology. The Razer Phone has been priced at $699 (approx Rs 45,000). A special version will follow with the company’s logo embossed in the traditional Razer green.
