Samsung to discard SDI batteries for Note 7

70 per cent of Galaxy Note 7 devices came with Samsung SDI batteries while the rest of 30% packed batteries made by Chinese company ATL

There has been a lot of buzz around Samsung recalling its flagship Galaxy Note 7 devices. Reportedly, 70 per cent of Galaxy Note 7 devices came with batteries produced by Samsung SDI while the rest of 30% packed batteries made by Chinese company ATL.

Samsung recalled over 2 million Galaxy Note 7 units after reports claiming that the devices exploded while charging. According to some analysts, the recall would cost the company around $730 million cut in operating profits.

Samsung has reportedly decided to temporarily stop integrating its SDI batteries and is expected to increase the use of Chinese ATL batteries for the Galaxy Note 7.

Considering that ATL batteries are manufactured in China while Samsung SDI battery units are made in South Korea or Vietnam. Users can check the manufacturing location of batteries in their Galaxy Note 7 on the back of the device or in the Phone info page in the Settings app.
