Nokia 7.1 launched: Price and specifications

The company is touting the Nokia 7.1's real-time SDR to HDR conversion using a 16-bit engine.

HMD Global, the home of Nokia smartphones, has launched its latest smartphone — the Nokia 7.1 at an event in London. The device offers a PureDisplay screen technology, which is said to take your viewing experience to the next level due to its high contrast ratio, greater clarity and enhanced colours across all of your content. The company is touting the Nokia 7.1’s real-time SDR to HDR conversion using a 16-bit engine, letting users experience "HDR quality entertainment, even when the content is not."

The smartphone is built out of 6000 series aluminium CNC machined frame and a die-cast metal centre. The device features a 5.84-inch FHD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, HDR10 support and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 636 chipset aided by up to 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of internal storage. It is backed by a 3060mAh battery with 18W fast charging, which is said to deliver 50 per cent charge in 30 minutes.

On the photography front, the handset sports a dual rear camera setup, consisting of a 12MP f/1.8 primary camera and a 5MP f/2.4 secondary camera. The company is touting two-phase detection and Zeiss optics for the rear camera setup. There also an Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) technology that helps reduce the effects of unstable hands. For selfies, there is an 8MP f/2.0 fixed focus sensor with an 84-degree field-of-view.

The handset runs on Android Oreo, based on the Android One programme. It will receive three years of monthly security patches and two years of OS updates, as part of an Android One programme. with an upgrade to Android 9.0 Pie slated for next month. The device will also get an upgrade to the latest Android 9.0 Pie soon.

As for the pricing, the Nokia 7.1 The Nokia 7.1 costs €299 (approx Rs 25,000) and €349 (approx Rs 27,000) in Europe. It will be available in Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel colour variants, across global markets.

Besides, the company has also launched two new audio accessories — the Nokia True Wireless Earbuds and the Nokia Pro Wireless Earphones.
