Lenovo not planning for Windows phones ahead

Although plans were in place to build the device, Lenovo's CEO seems sceptical about Microsoft's future OS endeavours.

Lenovo’s CEO Gianfranco Lanci has rubbished rumours about making a new Windows smartphone, saying the company is in doubts whether Microsoft will be able to develop a supporting OS in future.

The Chinese company is one of the biggest hardware supporters for Windows 10 on the PC and tablet platform and there was a plan to manufacture a new Windows phone, dubbed SoftBank 503LV, in China.

However, The Next Web has quoted Lanci, who now says that the company’s plans have changed. Although plans were in place to build the device, Lenovo’s CEO seems unconvinced about Microsoft’s future OS endeavours.

He said: “I don't see the need to introduce a Windows Phone and I am not convinced Microsoft is supporting the phone for the future.”

While this might come as a setback to Microsoft, the company has made it clear repeatedly that it plans to continue developing and supporting Windows 10 Mobile. It even revealed some OS improvements last week at its Ignite IT conference.
