Samsung Bixby' struggles to learn English, is delayed again

The delay is no surprise to industry analysts, as many of them doubted Bixby when it was announced.

Samsung introduced its voice-assistant Bixby as the most significant feature of Galaxy S8, but unfortunately the firm failed at giving a chance to S8 customers worldwide to experience it as it struggles to learn English-language.

The English-language version of the voice-activated “virtual assistant” was previously reported to get delayed by a month at the time of Galaxy S8’s release. And now, reports suggest it will be further delayed, at least by another month.

According to a report by Wall Street Journal, the English-language version of Bixby won’t likely to debut in the US until at least late June, more than two months after the launch of Galaxy S8, with which the voice assistant supposed to arrive.

The delay is no surprise to industry analysts, as many of them doubt Bixby when it was announced. "It's not talking yet," Bob O'Donnell, an analyst and consultant with Technalysis Research told AFP. "They have room to expand and grow."

"Bixby is trying to do things a little differently but careful assessment of what Samsung demonstrated shows a service that has very little intelligence at all," Richard Windsor, an independent analyst who writes the Radio Free Mobile blog told AFP.

Its delay by another month has resulted in growing sceptical of Samsung’s ability to compete against rivals which includes Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, Google’s Assistant and Microsoft’s Cortana, on the software front.

"Samsung has once again delayed the rollout of the voice component of its digital assistant Bixby, further reinforcing our opinion that Samsung can really only compete in hardware," said Richard Windsor, an analyst with Edison Investment Research told the register. "This, combined with the poor performance already offered by Bixby services on the Galaxy S8, leaves me unsurprised that a method to rewire the Bixby hard key to Google Assistant has already been published."
