iPhone X users complain of headaches and eye strain
Having an iPhone X is surely ups a person’s coolness quotient. But even after paying a fortune for it, the phone is definitely causing some kind of a trouble. Recent reports suggest that many users are complaining of eye strains and headaches. A technology which makes the display flicker depending on the brightness levels the user chooses, also known as Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) is apparently responsible for this.
A reddit post, which highlights the same issue read: “The iPhone X flickers a lot in a manner that’s supposed to be indiscernible to the human eye but for some users this aggressive, varying flicker can cause a whole host of health issues. Noticeable or not, this is not ideal for the eyes especially with hours of usage daily.”
The PWM level can be taken care of by turning to more controllers for adjusting LED dimming but Apple won’t be able to turn it off completely. And this doesn’t seem to be the first time Apple users are facing this problem; this was the case when MacBook Pro users has reported about the same a few years back.
Apple is not the only company which uses PWM to adjust brightness. Samsung Galaxy S series and the Google Pixel function on the similar lines.
Apple hasn’t yet commented on the effects of PWM on iPhone X users, but it’s believed the Store staff would agree to replace devices with the iPhone 8 should health issues be reported.
