WhatsApp has increased the group member count from 100 to 256
WhatsApp’s new update will probably find a few fans happy. As for previous versions, each group could hold only 100 members each and this was a problem for larger groups. However, though many may not be using the groups to its full potential, WhatsApp has increased it to 256, up by more than 150%. So go ahead and add more members to your existing group if you wanted more.
The recent update (v2.12.437) is available on WhatsApp.com. You can manually download the same and install it. The new update for larger groups is also available for iOS users. Windows users will have to wait for a while till the update for them is available.
But we are still disappointed with WhatsApp for not enabling the feature that requires a user to approve the group admin before being added to a group. We are presently seeing a rise in the number of people being added to a spamming group, spammed with a burst of messages and immediately being removed from the group thereafter. If the user had the option to approve being part of a group, he could have avoided the spam altogether. Hope WhatsApp implements the feature at the earliest.
