Xiaomi launches Redmi 4, Redmi 4 Prime, and Redmi 4A

The phones are mainly targeted at the budget phone segment of the Indian smartphone space

The China-based tech giant Xiaomi has launched its next offering in the Redmi smartphone series—the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime on November 4 in China at a price of CNY 699 (approximately Rs 6,990) and CNY 899 (approximately Rs 8,990) respectively.

In bonus, the company has also launched the Redmi 4A smartphone at a price of CNY 499 (approximately Rs 4,990). The Redmi 4 and the Redmi 4 Prime have identical body designs but with different internals. Similarities include the curved glass displays, fingerprint sensor, and hybrid dual-SIM slots.

The Redmi 4 features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display, powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with the Adreno 505 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It offers 16GB of memory storage which is expandable via microSD card. The smartphone sports a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, both with an f/2.2 aperture.

Internal storage is pegged at 16GB which is expandable via microSD up to 128GB. Connectivity options on the Redmi 4 includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, and GPS/ A-GPS. It is powered by a 4100mAh battery with fast charging support. Sensors on board the Redmi 4 include the accelerometer, ambient light, gyroscope, infrared, and proximity.

The Redmi 4 Prime on the other hand sports a 5-inch full-HD display, and is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with Adreno 506 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It has 32GB of internal storage expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4A is one of the most basic of the three handsets and foregoes a fingerprint sensor. It contains a dual-SIM slot, and runs on MIUI 8 planted on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Featuring a 5-inch display, it is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset clocked at 1.4GHz. RAM is pegged at 2GB of RAM and has an Adreno 308 GPU.

The Redmi 4A has a 13MP rear camera while the front camera is a 5MP one. Internal storage is again pegged at 16GB with expandable capabilities of up to 128GB. The smartphone is powered by a 3120mAh battery with fast charging capabilities.

Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime will be available in three colour variants, including Gold, Silver and Dark Grey, while the Redmi 4A prime will be available only in two colour variants, which is, Gold and Rose Gold.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime smartphones are available on pre-order in China and will go on sale starting November 7. However, the Redmi 4A handset will not go on sale until November 11.
