Another big hoax: WhatsApp video calling invitation message doing rounds

WhatsApp is rumoured to be testing its video calling feature.

A chain hoax message has been reportedly circulating around WhatsApp groups that ensure users with features such as video calling, self-destructive messaging and more. The message is another spammer’s release which asks users to click on a link, which could be a spamming website, malware infected website or a phishing website.

The message (as reported) reads that the person is sending you an invitation to receive the new 4.0 version of WhatsApp which enables you to have features as below:

  • Video calling.
  • Check who snooped into your profile pic and status.
  • Sending of more than 10 photos at once.
  • Stickers.
  • Theme support.
  • Free sms.
  • Delete messages you already sent – even from the recipient phone.
  • Encrypted text messaging.
  • Etc.
  • The message also has a ‘link’ for you to update the app and is said to be available only ‘via invitation’.

WhatsApp has not yet announced any features or update to the app version as yet. Please do not fall prey to the message or forward it to your friends. The message is not official. The link would take you to different websites with malware, phishing links, and probably advertisements, surveys and schemes, which will earn money for the spammer.
