Confirmed: Xiaomi Mi5 to not feature QHD display
Mumbai: After numerous launch predictions, Chinese consumer electronic giant Xiaomi are all set to launch its new flagship Mi5 in Q1 2016 at the MWC trade fair on February 24.
Although most of the specifications of this smartphone continue to be a mystery, Xiaomi and Qualcomm have pointed out that the device will utilise a Snapdragon 820 chipset.
Now the company’s co-founder Liwan Jiang has revealed another aspect of the device. He has confirmed that the device will have feature a Full HD screen instead of a Quad HD display.
He said that the Mi5 will include numerous technological advancements including an high-powered processor, but will keep some specifications untouched.
According to Jiang, the new handset will not be getting any display enhancements, as a QHD resolution display augments power consumption. He also said that the human eye’s perception of a QHD display is not very high, and makes no sense.
Xiaomi also claimed the FHD screens not only save in energy consumption but are also ideal for utilising advanced technologies. The Xiaomi Mi5 is also expected to come with NFC (Near Field Communication), and dual-SIM support.
Although no other official confirmation regarding the device has surfaced, there have been a lot of rumours regarding the device. Some of the rumours suggest that the device will include 3/4GB RAM, and a 3,600mAh battery coupled with fast charging technology, which is quite common among modern smartphones.
Other speculations suggest that the Mi5 will be shipped with Android Marshmallow 6.0 (Marshmallow) OS with the company’s native MIUI 7 running on top.
