Samsung Galaxy S7 catches fire during charging

The Samsung Galaxy S7 caught fire all of a sudden, and sparks from the fire damaged the furniture and the floor.

Another Samsung smartphone has reportedly caught fire while charging while being used with its original charger. A 20-year-old woman from South Korea left her Samsung Galaxy S7 charging in her room using the original accessories that the company provided in the box when purchasing the device.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 caught fire all of a sudden, and sparks from the fire damaged the furniture and the floor, while also causing burns on the woman’s hands. According to a report from Korea Herald that the phone didn’t previously suffer any damage and she only used the original charger and cable that Samsung supplied when purchasing the device.

The phone was given to the local Samsung service center on the same day it caught fire. The company returned it two days later with the woman sending it to the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards for further inspection in order to determine the cause of the fire.

Photos of the exploded phone shows the fire started in the battery compartment, with the left side of the screen showing signs of an internal explosion — this is the place where the battery unit resides on Samsung’s smartphones and similar damage was spotted in the majority of cases involving Galaxy Note 7 units that caught fire.

However, the results of the investigation will take time. “A case like this hasn’t been reported on Galaxy S7 devices so far. We are waiting on the inspection results from KATS,” a Samsung official has been quoted as saying.
