Leak: 6.1-inch iPhone to have an LCD display, single rear camera

A latest leak shows that the upcoming iPhone may feature an LCD display and a single rear camera setup.

It is widely believed that Apple will be launching three iPhones this coming September. A lot of the talk doing the rounds is that there was a strong possibility that all three devices would be fitted with OLED panels, just like the 2017 iPhone X. However, a new report suggests that one of these upcoming devices, the 6.1-inch iPhone will instead be fitted with an LCD display.

The 2018 iPhone line up is believed to be coming in three sizes, one with a 5.8-inch OLED panel, a larger 6.5-inch, Plus version which will feature an OLED display as well, and a 6.1-inch display with a TFT- LCD screen. The use of an LCD screen would in all probability place it as the cheapest option in the 2018 iPhone line-up.

All three phones are expected to feature the notch with the nearly bezel-less display. This will enable Apple to add Face ID in the trio of upcoming phones.

If the rumours of the 6.1-inch Apple iPhone with the LCD display are true, this will be the first time that Apple will be using a notch on an LCD display. It is reported that due to this feature, the LCD variant could possibly be delayed by two months. So, even if Apple announces the phone in September, the device might not be available to purchase till November. This was the same case last year with the iPhone X, where Apple announced it in September and released it by November.

6.1-inch iPhone leaked

In a related article, the images of this 6.1-inch iPhone have been revealed and by looking at it, we can see that the handset looks identical to the iPhone X. The only visible difference seen here is that it features a single camera setup with the flash placed below it. The iPhone X has a vertical dual camera setup with the flash located in the centre. The 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED versions of the iPhone are expected to include a dual camera setup.

As far as dimensions go, the 6.1-inch iPhone is believed to be chunkier than the iPhone X at 8.3mm. The iPhone X is 7.7mm thick. Like the iPhone X, the upcoming 6.1-inch iPhone will have a camera bump, taking the thickness to about 9.8mm. The length and breadth of the upcoming LCD iPhone is believed to be 150.99mm x 76.5mm.

Even though images have leaked ahead of its announcement in September, these are merely rumours and speculations, so Apple could change it or forego it at the name of its launch.
