No notch, no chin: Xiaomi's Mi MIX 3 could achieve its true goal
Xiaomi needs to be credited for initiating the whole ‘bezel-less’ design trend in the market with the Mi MIX back in 2016. Several manufactures, including the premium brands such as Apple and Samsung, followed suit with their flagships adorning narrow bezel displays to offer more screen in compact bodies. However, we have seen other midrange Chinese players leap into the limelight with two recent smartphone launches that take this bezel-less display concept to a whole new level. Sensing serious competition, Xiaomi seems to be honing its weapon to fight off the new entries with its Mi MIX 3.
Slashleaks has gathered some leaked renders of what appears to be the Mi MIX 3. The photos reveal the parts of the phone that will be the highlights on the next generation Mi MIX device, first of which is completely bezel-free design. The current generation Mi MIX 2S sport a fat chin at the bottom, housing the front camera. With the Mi MIX 3, Xiaomi appears to have removed the chin entirely and embedded an in-display fingerprint sensor — this indicated that the Mi MIX 3 could finally make the jump to an AMOLED display. Oh, and there’s no visible notch.
Wondering the location of the selfie camera? Well, Xiaomi has approached the sliding camera concept from the Vivo NEX S, putting it on a motorised mount on the top. The sliding camera housing only appears to hold the front camera, which indicates that the 3D facial recognition from the Mi 8 Explorer Edition might not make an appearance here. The rear houses a dual camera setup similar to the Mi 8 and the Mi MIX 2S.
While the images look appealing, it should be kept in mind that these are leaks and hold a high chance of never making it to the final product. However, since we have already seen the sliding camera technology in the real world, it is possible that Xiaomi could actually make it happen to the Mi MIX 3. What do you think of the Mi MIX 3 renders — will Xiaomi make it a reality soon?
