Tech giant Microsoft has introduced a new 5G version of its Surface Laptop, set to be available starting in August.
The 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 5G is powered by the Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors and features a neural processing unit (NPU) to provide access to Microsoft’s Copilot Plus AI features.
While the Surface Laptop 5G closely resembles the existing Surface Laptop 7, it includes notable internal upgrades, including a 5G modem, and support for both physical nano SIMs and eSIMs.
The base model is priced at $1,799 (approximately ₹1,55,425) and comes with an Intel Core Ultra 5 chip, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. All variants will be available in the Surface Platinum Silver color.
A standout feature of the Surface Laptop 5G is its custom antenna system.
“At the heart of Surface Laptop 5G is a dynamic antenna system that continuously adapts to its environment,” said Nancie Gaskill, general manager of the Surface business.
According to The Verge, the six-antenna system automatically adjusts based on how the laptop is held or used.
“This design required a new material, one that allows radio signals to pass through without impacting performance, while still delivering the durability, premium feel and lightness our customers are looking for,” said Gaskill.
“We developed a custom multi-layered laminate that meets all of these needs, enabling reliable 5G performance without compromising portability or design,” Gaskill added.
