Apple invests $45 mn in China R&D centre
Apple is reportedly building its first research centre in China's capital Beijing worth $4.5 million dollars to develop hardware.
The centre is being built to develop computers hardware, audio and video devices as well as other consumer electronics products.
According to media reports, the research facility will be set up in Wangjing area of Beijing and will employ 500 people in total.
In August, Apple CEO Tim Cook pledged to build the company’s first Asia-Pacific research and development centre in China. The announcement was made after the head of China’s industry and technology regulator suggested Apple to deepen its cooperation in country in research and development, after Apple sales hit hard in the Chinese market.
Apple had also invested $1 billion in China’s ride hailing app Didi Chuxing, in an effort to overcome the revenue losses it experienced in the second quarter of 2016.
