Wireless transfer of power from MacBook to iPhone could be a reality: Report
A newly released patent suggests that the Apple will provide a solution to the problem of an iPhone running out of battery when you are on the move. While the patents don't confirm anything, speculations are rife that Apple has been working on a truly wireless charging solution for future mobile devices. A fresh report asserts that wireless charging technology will be used to transfer power from one mobile device with higher stamina to another.
The patent highlights a wireless charging coil that could transmit current bi-directionally. This means if Apple intends to go ahead with this patent, future iPhone models could be charged with an iPad or a MacBook. Furthermore, the report also indicates that there could also be an option of multiple charging points that will transfer power between the MacBook and two or three other devices, meaning, anyone wanting to add more charge to an iPhone and an Apple Watch simultaneously. "By stacking devices, only one would be needed to connect to the charger, as that primary device could transmit power to others," the report stated.
The patent for "Inductive charging between electronic devices," published by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on July 26, describes ways for two devices, such as a tablet and a smartphone, could recharge each other's batteries using their existing charge, as per the AppleInsider. However, this is not the first patent application by Apple in terms of wireless charging — if by any chance Apple introduces this shared wireless charging feature on its devices, it could become a popular feature.
