Samsung to launch Pay Mini' on third-party Android, iOS smartphones
Mumbai: All this while Samsung’s native payment option was only available on its Galaxy line of Android smartphones but a new report has pointed out that the Korean consumer tech giants are launching a new payments app on third-party Android and iOS smartphones.
The new payments app, dubbed Samsung Pay Mini, is the company’s attempt to counter the lack of popularity of the Samsung Pay app among Galaxy smartphone users.
According to another report by ETnews, the Samsung Pay service can get a bit convoluted for users as the payments screen does not always appear impulsively while making a payment; users have to remember the debit or credit card they linked to the payment service.
Moving on, the new Samsung Pay Mini is speculated to be more efficient and will function like a complete digital wallet. This will eliminate the requisite for filling details manually after completing any payments on online portals or apps. Moreover, the new payment app will also save a copy of every completed transaction.
However, one downside is the absence of Magnetic Secure Transactions or MST payments on the new platform, due to technical reasons. The MST is only available along with the latest Samsung smartphones—Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
While Apple’s Pay service is quite popular, Samsung’s move is definitely a ploy to gain increase demand for its own digital payment service. LG might also be launching a similar service, dubbed GPay, in the second quarter of 2016.
The app will reportedly work on any device running on Android’s Marshmallow (V6.0) or higher. It will also work on any Apple mobile device running on iOS 8 or newer.
The app is speculated to make its debut in June and there are chances that Samsung might also make a version of the payment app for Windows and OS X.
