Beware of this game app which urges you to commit suicide

The new game app has reportedly been responsible for deaths of teenagers in Russia

A threatening new online game called “Blue Whale” has reportedly been the cause of three teenagers committing suicide, according to media reports (RT).

In a report from the BBC, UK police have warned parents about this game which has reportedly spread in Russia and has caused the deaths of two teenagers.

The game purportedly begins with a teenager being given a series of tasks to complete by an anonymous “master” over a period of 50 days. The tasks are simple at the beginning like watching a horror movie. The nature of the tasks slowly escalates and become increasingly dangerous with the final one ordering the teenagers to commit suicide.

The Hertfordshire Constabulary in UK is advising parents “to be vigilant and monitor children’s internet usage”, and the Woodlands School in Basildon, Essex, reportedly sent parents a letter to educate them about the game, RT reported.

Teens are threatened if they refuse to comply with the objectives, as curators use IP trackers to identify where the victims usually live.

The report did not explain if the game is an urban legend or a suicide cult. While it is unclear why the game is called “Blue Whale”, the name is believed to refer to an act which is carried out by blue whales who beach themselves in purpose of committing suicide.
