Video: Hackers hack into 30 voting machines within 30 minutes

Hackers hacked into discarded voting machines at the DEFCON expo this year to show how easy it was to manipulate elections.

In the world of politics, we came to hear about claims stating that elections in certain states of our country were manipulated by the ruling party. While no proof related to claim was unearthed, a group of hackers wanted to hack into voting machines used in the US election before 2015 at this year's DEFCON expo. And no wonder they were able to achieve what they intended to in less than an hour – precisely 35 minutes.

The voting machines were handed over to DEFCON so that talented minds could look for potential security flaws in these machines. We should make it clear that these machines were decommissioned in 2015 and had been used for three elections. It was expected that the machines would have minor issues which could be taken care of in the new voting machines.

A video from CNET shows that the voting machine had the biggest flaw lurking at the back – two USB ports. Hackers could easily access the system through these ports. They said that it would be easier to plug in USB flash drives and upload a malware to achieve intended results. Do you want to know about the time taken to hack the machine? One hacker only took 35 minutes to hack the voting machine. If you don’t believe it, you can have a look at it for yourself.
