Apple's iCloud backup service is down
Apple’s iCloud backup service is down right now, with problems first detected nearly 24 hours ago, but is now increasingly expanding for users across the world in the last few hours.
There is very little information known about the causes of the outage. Apple has however confirmed the problems on the system status page. They have stated that iCloud backup programs first started on June 27, with only a few users affected at the onset.
This might to most people to think the service being down because of the cyber attack, but there has been no evidence in this case and also Apple is tight-lipped on such details.
The Cupertino giant has however acknowledged that “users may be unable to restore their devices from an iCloud backup,” and this is frustrating when it comes to setting up new devices. Apple customers who are buying new iPhones will be unable to use iCloud to move data from one device to another, and the only way to circumvent these issues is to switch to iTunes backups which are stored locally for migration of data.
For the moment, we would suggest users to use iTunes for backups and restoring is taking more time. The reason being that addressing the issue seems to be taking more time than expected.
All the other services seem to be working correctly, according to Apple’s system status page, and the other iCloud services are also up and running, including iCloud Mail, iCloud accounts and sign in, and iCloud storage upgrades. This is most likely a server issue and we can expect a fix soon.
