Fin, a new voice-based personal assistant from San Francisco-based start-up, might replace your existing smartphone's digital assistant. The company has built an artificially intelligent app (or personal assistant) that functions on voice commands and also learns your habits over time and just like a real person snaps into action.
Fin is a new iOS app that accomplishes all the tasks. To use Fin, users need to pop open its minimalist black-and-white desktop site or iOS app. According to the company, the new assistant can complete all the tasks a human personal assistant would. The app can also schedule your plans with friends, remind you of events on your calendar, pay your bills, search restaurants in your area and more.
The question here is how is Fin different from Google Assistant, Alexa, Siri and the existing other voice assistants you may already be using. As stated, the app has the ability to learn from your habits. "We have an internal principle: AI means 'Always Improving,'" mentions Andrew Kortina, Fin's co-founder, on a blog post.
Fin learns from your preferences over time. It can remember your work schedule, favourite cafe, any allergies you have, recurring purchases, credit card information, and more.
Additionally, when Fin learns of a new restaurant or service from one user, it applies that knowledge to the requests of all users going forward — similar to what other major digital assistants do.
"Our mission is not automation for its own sake," Fin's founders wrote added. "Our guiding principle is to provide the best experience."
But Fin is not free like its existing rivals and works on the pay-as-you-use principle. Users need to sign up for Fin and shell out a minimum of $120 (approximately Rs 7,695) per month. As an estimate put forth by the company, a user would pay approximately $1 per minute to use the service. Fin is presently not available in all countries.
