The new 5-inch iPhone might have a Vertical Dual-Camera System

Japanese site Macotakara has claimed Apple is planning on launching a 5-inch model featuring a vertical dual-camera system

The iPhone 8 slated to be released next year and there are massive rumours flying around it. There have been many reports from various sources about the next-gent overhaul treatment that the iPhone 8 will be receiving. Now a new report has claimed the company wants to do this with a model that would feature a 5-inch display.

Japanese site Macotakara has claimed that a Taiwanese supplier has revealed Apple is planning on launching a 5-inch model featuring a vertical dual-camera system, as compared to the horizontal one that is available on the iPhone 7 Plus.

The website has had a good track record of information on unreleased iPhones. It also stated that there would be no other changes made on that model, and that all other specifications would be similar to the rest of the iPhones. This means Apple’s main purpose is just to offer a new size with the vertical dual-camera system.

One of the bigger questions that crops up here is why would Apple actually go for the 5-inch display and the answer is immediately evident — more space under the hood.

With a bigger display, Apple will have more space to play with horizontally than vertically. This feature is exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus right now. This means if Apple brings it on a smaller iPhone, it might have to rethink the internal structure in order to fit in the camera module.

As for an iPhone with a 5-inch display, Apple might be trying to provide potential customers with a choice between the existing 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch options. At this point, Apple doesn’t have such an option and many 5-inch phone buyers are tempted to go for Android, where the range of phones includes several models with this size.
