WhatsApp verifies 'some' business accounts; explores ways to grow businesses more

At present, the business verification is limited to a small number of businesses participating in a pilot program.

WhatsApp has confirmed verifying some business accounts on the messaging application, indicating its official launch on the platform soon. At present, the business verification is limited to a small number of businesses participating in a pilot program.

“WhatsApp is exploring ways for you to communicate with the businesses that matter to you,” the company wrote in a blogpost. A statement on the WhatsApp FAQ page says, “If you see a green badge next to a contact's name, it means that WhatsApp has confirmed that the phone number of this contact belongs to a business account.”

Clarifying it further, WhastApp says it will let users know when you are talking to a business verified account via a yellow message inside a chat. “There is no way to delete these messages from the chat,” the firm added.

“If you already have a business's phone number saved in your address book, the name you will see is the name you have saved in your address book. If you don't have a business's phone number saved in your address book, the name you will see is the name the business has chosen for themselves. If you'd like to stop a business from contacting you, you can block them,” WhatsApp explained.

WABetaInfo, which is known for revealing all latest WhatsApp features in test, has also pointed out “verified business accounts” in app’s beta version 2.17.285. In a picture shared online, WABetaInfo disclosed how a WhatsApp business account will look like and what all information it show.
