WhatsApp on all devices without connecting your phone? Sounds nice
You sure can use WhatsApp on the desktop app or the web but you can only use one at a time and most of the features of the service aren’t accessible through other platforms than a mobile. And did we forget? while using the instant messenger on the desktop app or web, your phone needs to be connected to the internet the whole time. What if we say, there’s a possibility of changing the way we use WhatsApp from other platforms than a mobile?
As per WhatsApp leaks site WABetaInfo, the messenger app is working on a new platform that will allow for greater interoperability between devices. However, WABetaInfo signals that this feature is still falling under the ‘rumor’ category as there are no screenshots or any other kinds of proof to share, but in referring to the new feature, the blogger notes “everything I’ve discovered in these months leads me to that conclusion.”
If this happens, it will allow you to use your WhatsApp account on multiple devices, without routing everything through your phone and without limiting the number of connected devices.
The key security feature of WhatsApp is that the messages are hitched altogether to your phone number and are only saved onto your phone, there’s no kind of distant server involved in the process. Hence, the current Desktop and Web apps need to route messages through your phone.
If this rumor turns into reality, using WhatsApp would become more convenient. For the moment, we must wait and hope that there are no compromises on security if this new feature is to be introduced.
