Video: Xiaomi Mi 4i explodes while charging, user gets free replacement

There have been several incidents in the past that involves smartphones exploding due to overheating or overcharging. These accidents aren’t only dangerous to the users; it also affects OEM’s reputation in the market.

Recently, a video, posted by Ajay Raj Negi on Xiaomi’s Facebook page, showed his Mi 4i smartphone explode into pieces while he was using it in his office. Luckily, no one was hurt due to the explosion.

Xiaomi India’s spokesperson stated, “We take such matters seriously and we have already been investigating the matter. We have been in touch with the customer and will be getting his device this week to do further investigation. In the meantime, we have offered a replacement phone to the customer.”

Adding to context, the Xiaomi Mi 4i comes with a Snapdragon 615 processor and had heating issue, for which the company rolled out an update .

We have seen many incidents in the past where smartphones have burned down to ash, which might be just a faulty unit from the batch. Trying to integrate a high end processor with an unworthy body can lead to such accidents.
