Samsung Galaxy S8 with clear back panel looks interesting
Samsung recently launched its latest entrant in their Galaxy S flagship lineup, the Galaxy S8 which stands out with a smooth design and Infinity Display that covers most of the front panel, while the back houses the Samsung logo and features the fingerprint scanner next to the rear camera.
There have been plenty of videos subjecting the Galaxy S8 to teardowns or drop tests. But a new video has surfaced wherein JerryRigEverything has released a tutorial of how to make the back panel clear/transparent and expose all of the internals of Samsung’s latest flagship.
The process isn’t difficult or complex, but it requires using solvent, clear glue and a couple of hours to complete. The Galaxy S8 has a color coat on the back panel, which when compared to the Galaxy S6 and S7 had a sticker-type coloring on the rear panel. This meant that the color on the back panel cannot be simply scratched off, and you would need to use a solvent.
For safety reasons, one has keep in mind to use gloves when spraying the paint thinner on the glass panel. One of the first steps is to remove the glass panel by using heat and a thin metal tool so that the glass wouldn’t break or shatter. It is however worth mentioning that by removing the glass panel, you’re voiding all the warranties on the smartphone.
Other important things to note once the glass back is off are the loss of wireless charging or waterproof protection. After removing the glass panel, you would need to pop off the camera frame and the fingerprint scanner, which is tightly glued. At this point you will need to spray the solvent on the back panel and have patience while the color is off.
Samsung has also added a slightly clouded lamination layer on the back panel, which can be peeled off easily. After cleaning up the glass panel, you can either place it back on or take things a bit further. The next step involves taking out the wireless charging module and exposing all internals.
The final result is a functional Galaxy S8 with a clear glass panel. However, the warranty on the phone is voided, the device is no longer waterproof and can’t charge wireless, so we’re not sure that the look would be worth all of these sacrifices.
