Lenovo's ZUK shutting shop

Analyst Pan Jiutang reveals that the Lenovo-funded low cost performance phone maker will be joining Moto in China.

You may have heard about the ZUK brand. They are a small brand under Lenovo who specialise in making affordable performance phones in South East Asia. They released their phones in the Indian market under the Lenovo “Zuk series” badge. The phones were popular for providing extreme value for money handsets but didn't set the charts on fire as expected. The result? Lenovo is planning to shut down ZUK and add its resources to the Lenovo Moto brand.

Analyst Pan Jiutang says that the brand is destined to shop in China and elsewhere. The Moto Z and Z Play phones received ZUK’s ZUI as a beta test software a few days back, indicating the fact that their creating are going to be used for the mainstream Lenovo Moto devices. Above that, the upcoming ZUK Z3 has been cancelled according to a leak in Weibo, pinpointing towards a sure shot closure.

ZUK Mobile was founded in mid-2015 and the company managed to make four smartphones during its 2-year existence. ZUK Z1, ZUK Z2, ZUK Z2 Pro and ZUK Edge were the only phones that ZUK launched internationally.

Lenovo revealed a few months ago that all of their phones are going to be sold under the Lenovo-Moto brand. ZUK’s smartphones provided a major competition to the mother brand’s phones in India and the decision to pull the brand down has been done in favour of using ZUK’s resources for Lenovo Moto
