Instagram will now send screenshot notifications

The feature is similar to the one offered by popular picture story app Snapchat.

Instagram recently rolled out a new update that allows users to send self-destructing messages to their friends. But as they say ‘applause doesn’t come without caveats’ now users will be notified if you take a screenshot of their disappearing message.

The feature is similar to the one offered by popular picture story app Snapchat. To use the feature on Instagram, users have to take a picture using app’s camera and then tap on the arrow to send it in private. Users can also send to a group of people at the same time.

"Unlike other messages in Direct, these photos and videos disappear from your friends' inboxes after they have seen them. And you will see if they replayed it or took a screenshot." said Instagram in a statement.

The update also brings another feature where users get a pop-up saying "You can share this post with your friends" after taking a snapshot from the feed. Essentially, the app understands that a user has taken a screenshot, presumably to send it to a friend or post online, and it'll offer a few ways to officially share the image if you tap the button.
