Twitter now lets users tag location feeds in tweets

Twitter has now joined forces with FourSquare to enable this new feature, helping users to identify location-specific tweets accurately.

In a recent development, micro-blogging site Twitter has introduced a new feature which allows users to tag and view tweets from specific locations like a sports stadium, music festival, or a business event site.

A report by TechCrunch pointed out that the San Francisco-based company has now joined forces with FourSquare—a search and discovery service mobile app—to enable this new feature, helping users to identify locations accurately.

In return for its services, FourSquare will significant ad revenue, branding, link backs and the ability to improve its own marketing. While the feature has only being launched for iOS users, other platforms will also be entitled to the feature soon.

Foursquare CEO Jeff Glueck seemed excited about the integration, which has become so important now-a-days. He also pointed out that location provides more background for any given moment, and that the company’s location intelligence is ‘best-in-class’.

Earlier, only a basic version of the location feeds was available before but there was no way to determine if a tweet was tagged with a location unless opened in detailed view. From now on when users tag a specific location along with a tweet, it will be visible in on your main timeline.

However, in case users want to delve deeper, they can click through to the tweet detail and then click location, which will disclose the location feed with a map on top. There you can also view a tab of tweets from that particular place or city, with an option to further check tabs dedicated to various media such as photos from there.

This will not only eliminate searching via location hashtags that are currently mandatory; with this feature in place, users will be able to discover based location-specific tweets seamlessly. The feature might also help Twitter to get more users tweeting, and give extra visibility to tweets from a precise location.
