According to the International Federation of Robotics, India imports over 2500 robots every year and has the potential to become the largest market for robotics. Esben H. Østergaard, CTO and co-founder of Universal Robots, said that India has been slow to adopt robotics and uses time-consuming and laborious processes. By introducing robotics in the manufacturing and automation industry, Indian companies can achieve efficient mass production with minimal room for common errors.
“The Indian manufacturing industry needs to look closely at these new technologies and make the right investments, especially in robotics to ensure better productivity and products,” said Mr. Østergaard.
UR’s collaborative robots or Cobots are developed to combine the abilities of people and machines. They can be used to accomplish high precision, repetitive and burdensome tasks. “You can have our robots up and running within hours of unpacking it, with just a brief introduction session into the technology,” said Mr. Østergaard. “UR’s polyscope interface makes it possible for anyone to program a precision pick and place application within minutes.”
UR’s Cobots cater to the needs of manufacturing, packaging and automobile assembly. “They act as a multi-functional tool i.e. a screwdriver, packaging device, palletizer, gluing application or just a ‘helping hand’ which will empower the employees further,” said Mr. Østergaard.
He believes that the Indian market needs Cobots to achieve higher productivity without replacing workers in factories but working alongside them. It will eliminate time-consuming, monotonous or potentially unsafe activities done by workers in factories.
The company looks forward to take advantage of the ‘Make in India’ initiative to establish manufacturing facilities of international quality standards.
