Artificial Intelligence: The impact it has on our kids' learning

Children today have access to the wide and vast world of internet at the tap of a button.

Artificial Intelligence has already made a grand entry into our lives. Sci-fi movies seem closer to the reality every passing day. One of the major fields where AI has stirred waves is the education sector. While we still don’t have robots teaching students, tablets and other devices have replaced conventional paper books and chalkboards in most educational institutes. Children today have access to the wide and vast world of internet at the tap of a button. They don’t study and learn the way they used to a decade or two back. Their knowledge is not limited to what the teacher knows. A student of philosophy could advance by leaps and bounds in marketing or pharmacology by studying online on the AI-based learning platforms that are on the rise.

Our intelligence is what makes us human, and AI is an extension of that quality. – Yann LeCun

Schools are recognising the fact that no two children have the same aptitude and learning abilities. AI can help your child reach great heights in their learning curve by catering to their individual needs. These software and apps can identify the areas and subjects where the student struggles most and help them in improving their command in it by providing them with repetitive, focussed lessons in it.

Anyone who is interested in amalgamating education and Artificial Intelligence must be familiar with Dr Fei-Fei Li, a professor at Stanford and chief scientist at Google. While talking at the New York Summit this year, she said, “I often tell my students not to be misled by the name 'artificial intelligence' - there is nothing artificial about it. AI is made by humans, intended to behave by humans, and, ultimately, to impact humans' lives and human society.”

It’s a known fact that young minds are much more impressionable than those of adults. So, there’s no doubt about AI leaving its footprints on minds of the children who’re constantly surrounded by it. From the way they communicate to the way they learn and grow, gadgets around them have a major impact on every aspect of their personality.

But not only for children, www.healthhunt.in — a rising wellness platform — has cracked how AI can be used to impart learning on health and wellness for adults as well. Founder and CEO of healthhunt, Pooja Duggal adds, “We believe that for children, early years are critical for brain development, and what they eat affects focus and cognitive skills which in turn impacts learning. To that end, we’ve brought together the most renowned experts in the industry for a discourse on children’s wellness at our flagship event, ‘The Future of Wellness’ that is set to happen on November 17, 2018 at the World Trade Centre in Mumbai.”

Anand Chulani, the #1 success coach in the country who’s been associated with names like Rajasthan Royals and Serena Williams says, “So, basically what I want to talk about is helping our children be emotionally secure. We've all been asked this question when we are younger – “What do you want to be when you're older?” and to a child what that question implies is that we are nothing right now and one day we'll be someone, therefore steering them towards following the model of the ‘achiever’ instead of the champion later in life, which is the wrong approach. I’ll be dwelling upon this in depth and it’s a must watch for every single parent.”

Amrita Raichand, India’s Whirlpool girl and chef is also a part of the panel and says, “What I plan to do at this panel discussion is to be a counsellor for parents, because I genuinely don't feel that there is a problem with our children, their demands of food, and the kind of demands they have. It is us, adults, who refuse to understand the emotions of a child. The moment we address children as adults, trust me, we will win half the battle.”

Neerja Birla, the founder of M-power and Chairperson of Aditya Birla World Academy and The Birla Integrated School will also be there to talk about the importance of mental health among children.

The World Trade Centre in Mumbai will witness ‘The Future of Wellness’ event on the 17th of November, 2018 where everyone can drop in and learn the art of raising physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy children with the help of AI.
