iPhone 8 will not be delayed, Foxconn building just 200 units per day

The Cupertino based company is slated to present the device at a September event, but sales are slated to start in October or November.

There have been constant rumors that Apple might delay the iPhone 8 for a month or two. The Cupertino based company is slated to present the device at a September event, but sales are slated to start in October or November.

But that is not true, or at least according to information posted on Twitter by leakster Benjamin Geskin, who has a decent track on details regarding unreleased iPhones.

Geskin states, “Foxconn started trial production of 3 new iPhones (7s, 7s Plus, 8). About 200 units per day. iPhone 8 is not delayed.” Although at first glance this might seem like good news for Apple and their fans across the world, there are several details which need some clarification at this point.

Firstly, as Geskin says, this is only trial production, and not the actual mass production which starts ahead of a new product launch.

Since it is already late July and Apple is projected to take wraps off the new iPhones in September, thus granting just one month for the mass production of the biggest iPhone overhaul in history seems odd to say the least. The timing, however, appears to indicate an October or November release, which would in the end represent a delay for the new iPhone 8.

Secondly, the tweet has revealed that Foxconn is building just 200 units per day, which is unexpectedly low volume if the Apple indeed wanted to launch the iPhone 8 together with other two new models.

If the same production rate is maintained until September 26 when Apple could begin sales of the new iPhone generation, this could mean that only some 12,800 units manufactured by Foxconn would be ready. This figure is expected to increase as mass production starts, but also with help from other iPhone makers, including Pegatron.

Regardless of the tweet, all signs seem to be state that the iPhone 8 will be delayed, even though Apple has not said anything about the new model. There are several unknown details at this point like the location of the fingerprint sensor which could be one of the reasons why it has been delayed.
