Almost a decade ago, when Motorola launched its Moto G smartphone, it defined the pure Android experience as Google intended it. Later, brands started adding their useful (sometimes unnecessary) bells and whistles in an attempt to create a niche for themselves. Moto G was never known for its design. It looked like a boring brick with curved edges, with not many colour variants to choose from. Also, it wasn't the slimmest device of the time.
Things have changed at Motorola. If the latest launches are anything to go by, there is a new emphasis on design and style. Motorola, over the last couple of years has slowly adopted 3D glass for its back covers. The recently launched Moto G6 takes this a notch ahead (not literally!) by accentuating the camera module to look like a happy smiley, cutely sitting atop the shiny back glass. The 5.7-inche device come with an HD Max Vision display in an 18:9 aspect ratio, along with Dolby sound output. With a dual rear 12MP + 5MP camera, and a 16MP front camera, the G6 has Impressive low-light photography enhancements including 300 per cent more light, LED flash and a useful black and white mode for better back camera photography of structures and monuments. Powered by a 3000mAh battery, the G6 comes with fast turbo charge and energy enhancement capabilities. Prices are Rs 15,999 and Rs 13,999 for the 4GB + 64GB and 3GB + 32GB variants. If design and Moto loyalty is your thing, the G6 is a must have.
Along with the G6, Motorola has also launched the G6 Play in India. With a 4000mAh battery, the emphasis is clearly on better battery performance. Just like the G6, the Play variant is a 5.7-inch device. With 13MP back and an 8MP front cameras, good quality images are churned out thanks to Phase Detection Auto Focus. The G6 Play is priced at Rs 11,999. Typical of Motorola devices, there are always some Google features that add a wow factor. This time, it is Google Lens integration for landmark recognition and auto translation. You simply open the camera and point at a monument, and Google will give you facts, history and news about the identified landmark.
Between the two devices, we would recommend the G6, unless you are running short by Rs 2,000 and wish to compromise on a very stylish back panel.
