Hyderabad: Experts' call to protect servers
Hyderabad: DDOS attack would slow down the server in the initial stage, which could be rectified by manual optimisation of the server or restoration of the previous best back-up.
Experts in cyber security say adoption of precautionary measures are necessary to protect IT systems from DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks. Private cyber crime investigator Sandeep Mudalkar said DDOS is an attack on servers.
“The servers use a wide range of IP addresses. Hackers customise internal tools to penetrate the server automatically by DDOS attacks. The vulnerabilities in server go largely unnoticed. Sometimes, when these attacks become big enough, it can slow down websites on the server, or websites become unresponsive for short periods of time,” he said.
DDOS attack would slow down the server in the initial stage, which could be rectified by manual optimisation of the server or restoration of the previous best back-up.
“So far, the cyber world has identified three sorts of DDOS attacks – Volumetric Attacks, TCP State-Exhaustion Attacks and Application Layer Attacks,” he said.
He said DDOS attacks have its impact on bandwidth, resources and exploitation of software. “The exploitation type of attack targets a particular software fault either to make the machine unavailable or to take control of it,” he said.
