Multi-window feature missing on Nougat beta version
Android 7.0 Nougat is one of the latest OS updates by Google and was made available to Nexus devices at the end of August. Also, Google has released its Pixel smartphones with Android 7.1 pre-installed. Just recently, Google has started rolling out Android 7.1.1 Nougat Developer Preview, which comes with some changes.
According to the Android Police, the multi-window feature is no longer available in the beta version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. In the first Android N Developer Preview, Google made multiple useful gestures accessible for calling upon the multi-window feature. Users have to swipe up from the overview screen button in order to launch the multi-window mode.
Pixel phones running Android 7.1 still have the toggle, but the feature doesn’t seem to work. It was also missing from the latest Developer Preview. The feature had to be enabled from the System UI with a simple swipe up gesture.
The feature mentioned above is a standard on the Android, which is why it may have been removed from the beta version and should appear in the stable build.
However, the possibility is still present that the feature won’t be coming back at all. We’ll just have to wait and see when the next build of Android 7.1 arrives.
Other new features that Google introduced in the Developer Preview is the Phone app automatically switching to Do Not Disturb mode when entering a call. Other changes like modifications to the UI and new notifications centre were introduced.
