Leica, Huawei tie up to create better smartphone cameras
Before the arrival of the iPhone 7, Huawei P9 garnered much appreciation for its amazing dual-camera setup.
The dual lens sensor used in the P9 was manufactured by Leica and the company is reportedly partnering Huawei to open a new joint research facility in Germany to introduce enhanced dual-camera tech.
According to TechCrunch, the Max Berek Innovation Lab will be established in Wetzlar, where the companies will collaborate to conduct imaging research, work on VR and AR technology. Having Leica’s lens technology will surely be a booster for the research and also Huawei VR goals.
While the deadly duo has managed to nail it with the P9, users can expect them to surface with better dual-lens and imaging technologies for smartphones in future. It is too early to say whether the color/monochrome dual camera setup will be retained or a multiple focal-length pattern will be incorporated.
Dual cameras are becoming an increasingly important facet modern day smartphones are featuring. In future, we can expect more smartphones to sport high-end cameras for easy, hassle-free photography.
