Moscow launches its own variant of Pokemon Go
Pokemon Go is the first among the lot to establish a mark in mainstream augmented technology. Within an unbelievably short time, Pokemon Go has gained great prominence. Thus, it isn’t surprising for similar versions of this popular game to surface the market.
Moscow reportedly launched a limited version of ‘Know. Moscow. Photo,’ an augmented reality app for iOS and Android and it is quite similar to Pokemon Go. This app allows users to capture virtual characters in real-life locations with their smartphone cameras. However, instead of hunting Pokemon, users search for and capture important Russian historical figures, according to Moscow’s Department of Information Technologies. This is done with the aim to attract attention to Moscow’s rich cultural heritage using fashionable augmented reality technology.
Virtual doubles of historical figures include Russian tsars Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great, first man in space Yuri Gagarin and Soviet rock legend Viktor Tsoi among others. These figures appear in specific places in Moscow based on their life stories.
The full version of the app will be released soon. Characters will then start appearing in multiple addresses.
