Google to constrain sites with pop-up ads

Google announced two new changes on Tuesday with the purpose to improve user experience.

Google, in the effort to help users gain a quick web-surfing experience, have decided to implement two new changes to its mobile search results. Firstly, it plans to crack down mobile sites with intrusive pop-up ads. Apart from that, it will also be cutting off its ‘mobile friendly’ tag.

“Although the majority of pages now have text and content on the page that is readable without zooming, we’ve recently seen many examples where these pages show intrusive interstitial to users,” they mentioned in their blog.

“This can frustrate users because they are unable to easily access the content that they were expecting when they tapped on the search result,” they added.

Therefore, in order to improve the mobile search experience, after January 10, 2017, pages where content is not easily accessible to a user on the transition from the mobile search results may not rank as highly.

Moreover, to keep search results uncluttered, they will be removing the ‘mobile-friendly’ label.
