Facebook Messenger testing option to connect with non-friends

The company said that the feature has been rolled out to a select group of people before the commercial roll out.

Facebook has been testing out a slew of new features to enhance user experience and its latest ‘Add Contact’ request feature for the messenger platform makes it easier for users to connect with people outside their friends list.

The development was confirmed by the social media giant to BuzzFeed news on Wednesday. The company said that the feature has been rolled out to a select group of people before the commercial roll out.

With the new feature in place, users can send a ‘Add Contact’ request to an unknown person of the website and subsequently chat with that individual on Messenger.

After the chat request, the Messenger app would prompt you to add the desired person to your friends list but you can choose to ignore it.

While Facebook allows people to converse with non-friends on Messenger via message request, the new add contact list would make the process further simpler.

Meanwhile, some of the other notable changes Facebook has incorporated on its Messenger platform include secret conversations, enhanced encryption, disappearing messages, and smart bots for businesses.
